Building Blocks Learning Center

Building Blocks, as an outreach program of Thornton Heights United Methodist Church, serves the community as a year-round early childhood education center and quality daycare provider to over 70 children per week. A fundamental feature of the program is its family friendly policies such as acceptance of subsidy programs that support parents who are students, or training for and/or seeking employment. Offering the option of as few as two mornings per week up to full time care allows for flexibility. Tuition scholarships are part of our community outreach as well.
In conjunction with the greater church family, BBLC families are invited to participate in “VBS” like events such as a Friday night pizza event followed by games and program with a theme-message as well as a Saturday event with lunch and outside games. What a wonderful way to share ‘Gods’ message with our greater community. During the summer our Pre-school and School Age children participate in Vacation Bible Camp for a week put on by volunteers from the church. The school year brings a program called "God Time" for the Pre-School age children one morning a week with church volunteers to teach them bible stories through song, games and crafts.
BBLC has a staff of 20 who are trained in CPR & First Aid. Several teachers are students in early childhood education at SMCC or education majors at USM. In addition, several staffers have over ten years experience in the education field. This staff allows us to bring love, quality care, education, and support to the children and families we serve.
